A:  First think about how many products you use daily that rely on crystals in order to  function.

FARMERS: When you are making 30 or more gallons of final solution (fertilizer inputs + water) add ONE drop of SmartNute for each 30 gallons. First give your bottle a couple of shakes.

 

For example, if your tank holds 600 gallons of final solution then add 20 drops of SmartNute (600 ÷ 30 gallons per drop = 20 drops). No need to “mix in” SmartNute as it will be ready by the time you reach the field. 

 

If you’re using 6 gallons of fertilizer per acre, you will now use only 1/6 to 1/18 that amount (1 gallon to 1/3 gallon per acre). Begin testing with 1/6 your regular inputs used and reduce the amount of inputs when using higher NPKs.

If you are looking to bump up your NPK without using more fertilizer, you can also use SmartNute added to your regular dosing to increase your inputs.

SMALL GROWERS: If you are making less than 30 gallons of final solution then use your graduated black measuring container and add 30 ounces of clear water. Give your SmartNute bottle a couple of shakes. Now add ONE drop of SmartNute to the 30 ounces of water in your black container and shake a couple times.

 

In a separate one gallon container (like a plastic milk jug), add 1 ounce of the solution from your black container (this equals 1/30 of a drop of SmartNute). If you’re growing in soil, you will now use only 1/6 to 1/18 of the liquid fertilizer you normally use for a gallon of mixed nutrients.

 

Add the amount of fertilizer you select (1/6 to 1/18) to the gallon container. Now top off the one gallon container with clear water. Shake a few times and you’re done. You just made one gallon of final solution.

Below is satellite imagery showing a side-by-side of this wheat field trial. First, you must know that Colorado experienced one of the worst seasons in over 90 years. Some farmers harvested as little as 5 bpa wheat. Even so, these trial results are worth noting.

Fertilizer input included one application of 30-0-0-3 only. The farmer and I had a miscommunication and the 30-0-0-3 with SmartNute was applied at a rate of 1/48 of control instead of 1/6 of farmer's normal nutrient application.

In simple terms, a 1/48 application means that if you invested $30,000 in fertilizer inputs, you would now invest only $625 using SmartNute - even though 1/48 is not recommended for 30-0-0-3 on wheat. For a 1/6 application you would invest $5,000 instead of $30,000, plus the cost of SmartNute which is negligible.

Even with our miscommunication, SmartNute still gained a .01 bpa advantage over the control (SmartNute bpa 20.6 - 30) .

In the early 1900s my grandfather rented farmland in west Texas and barely made ends meet farming cotton. Basic Field Trial Procedure + Reward

When you successfully complete a trial with a simple reporting and conclusion procedure, you'll be rewarded with 2 years worth of SmartNute (you can also purchase SmartNute without conducting a field trial):

 

If you have an average size farm (442 acres) this reward can be worth nearly $2400 (442 acres times 3 passes times 10 gallons). This is the minimum reward. If you have 2,000 acres your reward is nearly $11,000. Granted, this reward is pocket change compared to the savings you can get when using SmartNute, but it's my way of saying thanks for your generous support and insight.

Since most farmers are not familiar with field trials, I'm going to make this r-e-a-l-l-y easy for you. You can choose from an easy field trial procedure or the easiest field trial procedure.

 

Let's begin with the easiest field trial procedure.

Instead of collecting lots of data, all I require for you is to let me know what crop(s) you are testing and number of acres, your planting date and method of application (2x2, in-furrow, foliar, etc.). What method #1 or #2 below, a basic visual inspection after 4 weeks, a basic visual inspection after 8 weeks, and a final visual inspection plus 3 photos of your control and test (side-by-side comparison) acreage just before harvest with your conclusion after harvest.

Your 3 visual inspections and conclusion can be "test is less than control", "test is same as control", "test is better than control". That's it.

Next is the easy field trial procedure.

In order to ensure the field trial data you collect is valuable in your decision to use SmartNute, it’s crucial to plan and manage your project starting with your goals and objectives. Your increased return on profit (ROI) depends on it.

 

Let's keep this simple. Let me know what crop(s) you are testing, beginning date and type of application (2x2, foliar, etc.). What method #1 or #2 below, after four weeks a simple progress report, after eight weeks a simple progress report, and date when you harvest plus a simple final data report plus 3 photos of control and test (side-by-side comparison) acreage just before harvest and your conclusion after harvest. You can use visual analysis, yield analysis, health aspects, etc. Keep it simple.

 

Your satellite imagery/drone can help with this information gathering, or you can simply use manual and visual methods. Regardless of what other farmers say about SmartNute success, it can only be a success if it works on your farm and gets the ROI you expect.

 

There are 2 methods to use with SmartNute:

 

Method 1: Your goal is to reduce nutrient (NPK/micro) cost over 80% and achieve equal or better yields. Method 2: You may decide to increase your yield by using your current nutrient management plan and simply add SmartNute to that application without adding more nutrients.

 

Choose one goal, or both goals if you can set aside enough testing acreage. It’s crucial to evaluate only one goal per trial, rather than to combine multiple goals into a single trial. You can test things together, but it becomes more complicated and that’s what we want to avoid.

 

Include control acreage in your trial(s):

 

This part of the trial will allow you to make side-by-side comparisons of what you've already been doing and the new test application. At the end of the trial, compare your data to decide how well SmartNute works for you. With certain trials there may be visual changes in the field. Visual assessments can be added to the yield data at the end of the trial.

 

You want to use replicated strips. A replicated strip is a physical repetition of your control and test acreage with the same comparative treatments or factors across a field.  Replicated strips work best with the size of your equipment and help account for field data variability. Also, the control and test acreage you are going to collect your data from should be fairly uniform to minimize discrepancies.

 

In order to have sufficient data replicate your strips 2-4 times for each objective. You may want to consider 10-40 acres, but most important allow enough acres that fit into your budget. Once you complete a successful trial, you'll realize it makes sense to move forward with more acres in your trials to increase your ROI.

 

In running your trial, you may want to test various applications beginning with SmartNute starter applications or at various growth stages to see what gives you the greatest ROI. Each application stage should be a different trial to achieve valid data.

FOR EXAMPLE, if your tank holds 600 gallons of final solution then add 20 drops of SmartNute (600 ÷ 30 gallons per drop = 20 drops). No need to “mix in” SmartNute as it will be ready by the time you reach the field. 

 

If you’re using 6 gallons of nutrients per acre (equals 100 acres for 600 gallon tank), you will now use only 1/6 that amount of nutrients (1 gallon per acre).

IT'S AS SIMPLE AS reducing your inputs to 1/6 of your normal nutrient application and making up the difference in water when filling your tank.

 

At 1/6 of your normal nutrient application and using a 600 gallon tank, fill the tank with 100 gallons of your nutrient components and 500 gallons of water, plus your 20 drops (1 drop per 30 gallons of final solution) of SmartNute. You just saved the cost of 500 gallons of nutrients. At 6 gallons of final solution per acre, your SmartNute cost is less than $54 retail for 100 acres.

Making more than 30 gallons and using foliar:

IF YOU ARE USING A boom sprayer, pivot system, etc. and need to make large amounts of inputs, remember to use one drop of SmartNute in your tank for each 30 gallons of final solution (reduced fertilizer dose + SmartNute + water = final solution).

 

A ONE-HALF OUNCE BOTTLE of SmartNute has 360 drops that make 10,800 gal. (360 drops X 30 gal. per drop = 10,800 gal.)

WHEN USING FOLIAR, test with 1/6 to 1/18 of the fertilizer application you normally use. You can use foliar with a late afternoon, evening, or early morning application with evening (especially after rain) being best. Avoid evening foliar if you have a potential fungi problem. Over 70 degree weather is ideal, but mid-eighties and above can cause problems. Ideal pH for optimal nutrient absorption is from 5.2 to 6.4 with a 6.8 maximum.

Foliar sprays should include small amounts of solution with a high point of deliquescence including Sea Crop, magnesium chloride, potassium nitrate or calcium nitrate in order to hold your foliar application longer on the leaf. Deliquescence = humidity point in the air where a leaf droplet will stay wet or dry.
